Sometimes only the motor has failed and the rest of the opener unit is still serviceable. In other cases, the motor and the opener are past their useful life and a full replacement makes more sense. We look at what you have, explain what we find, and give you the options.
Common reasons we see garage door motors fail in this area:
- Age — most residential opener motors last 10 to 15 years under normal use
- Worn or burned-out motor components from extended use
- Power surge damage
- Overheating from a door that was out of balance or binding on the track
If the door itself is contributing to the motor failure — a worn spring or misaligned track putting extra load on the opener — we address that as well. Installing a new motor on a door with an underlying mechanical problem will shorten the life of the replacement.
